Accomodation facility for family member of inpatient of Jaffna Teaching Hospital

A residential facility for the family members of patients receiving treatment at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, particularly those coming from outer districts and the island areas of the Jaffna District, has been in operation since 17.06.2024. The residence is located at No. 76, Hospital Road, Jaffna approximately 600 meters from the hospital.

This residence, named “SIVASI ILLAM,” is one of the valuable services provided by the Administration of Jaffna Teaching Hospital for the benefit of hospital patients and their families. The facility offers free accommodation for relatives who travel long distances to support their loved ones during medical treatment.

The residence is jointly managed by the Saivite Tamil Foundation in the USA and the Government General Hospital Welfare Association. Their collaboration ensures that families visiting the hospital have a comfortable and supportive place to stay during difficult times.

Since its opening, people from 21 out of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka have benefited from this facility. The residence has helped many families reduce the stress and financial burden associated with finding accommodation while caring for hospitalized relatives.

Dedicated staff members are on duty 24 hours a day to look after the welfare of residents. In addition, tea and snacks are provided free of charge in the morning and evening for those staying at the residence.

The impact of this initiative has already been significant. In 2024, the residence accommodated 223 people, and in 2025, the number increased to 557 people, reflecting the growing need for such support services.

“SIVASI ILLAM” stands as a priceless gift to the public, especially for families who live far from the hospital and require temporary accommodation while their relatives receive treatment. This initiative continues to provide comfort, relief, and dignity to many families during challenging times.
